Thanks in part to your generous support, Willow alumna Greta Schacht raised over $5,000 in just 48 hours to support 15 orphans in Tanzania! “I am humbled, awestruck, and absolutely blown away by the outpouring of love and generosity from friends, family, and even strangers over the past 48 hours,” Greta said.

Greta shared that the money donated already made a huge difference. Greta and Juma Judson, the director of the New Hope School who serves as caretaker for the 15 children, purchased eight bunk beds, 15 mattresses, 15 pillows, 15 blankets and sheet sets, 15 mosquito nets, 15 sets of cups, plates, bowls, spoons, and forks, 15 toothbrushes and toothpaste, two tables, pots, pans, soap, and enough flour, rice, and beans to feed the children for the next three months.

Greta has been volunteering at the New Hope School for impoverished children in Tanzania for the past three months. She has been deeply inspired by Juma, who she calls “one of the most amazing individuals I’ve yet to meet.”

“Juma recently built an addition to his small home in Arusha where he will be able to properly house the 15 orphans that he has taken in over the past few years,” Greta explained at the start of the fundraiser, noting that Juma’s funds were largely depleted by the cost of constructing the addition and the children needed about $5,000 worth of essentials.

We are so inspired by Greta’s service, compassion, and perseverance, all values that we emphasize in Willow’s virtues program. “Willow is a place of action and change,” Greta said in an interview with Willow’s Alumni Society Coordinator last year. “Willow educates children to act with confidence and compassion, and meet big challenges head on.”
