Mr. Andy, Willow’s beloved Wellness Teacher, always puts together an amazing day of fun, team-building activities for Willow’s Field Day. This year, he’s planned an awesome morning of at-home activities for Willow students of all ages. Join us for our first Virtual Field Day on Wednesday, June 3! Complete the activities and report your results before noon. Eighth-grade team captains will tally results for their teams, and we’ll all celebrate together in a live meeting at 12:30pm! There will be no mandatory live classes on Wednesday.
Below you will find a complete list of activities for Field Day. Watch Mr. Andy demonstrate them all during our Morning Gathering at 8:15am on Wednesday (or anytime after). Watch below:
Supplies:
As a reminder, here are the supplies you need:
- Toilet paper tubes
- Paper towel tubes
- Plastic cups (Solo or similar)
- Sponge – the bigger, the better
- Bucket or large pot
- Measuring cup
- Large beach towel
- Balloon or beach ball (not to worry if you can’t get it!)
- Big spoon
- Pair of rolled-up socks
Field Day Activities:
- Flip Your Shoe (items needed – shoe and plenty of space)
With your shoe half on, flip it up in the air and see how it lands. Two points if it lands right side up, one point if it lands on its side, and zero points if it is upside down. Do this activity ten times. - Stack the Cup (several Solo cups)
Must stack cups end to end – not inside one another. How many can you balance? Earn a point for each cup on the stack. - Skeet Ball (rolled up pair of socks and three different sized pots)
Set up pots close to each other and stand about 10 steps away from the pots. The biggest pot is worth one point, the middle is worth three, and the smallest is worth five points. You will have one minute to see how many points you earn! - Beach Towel Flip (large beach or bath towel)
Lay the towel out flat and make sure you are not on a slippery floor. While standing on the towel, you will have one minute to flip it over while not stepping off the towel. If you succeed you will earn 10 points. - Paper Airplane (paper airplane and a bucket, waste basket, or laundry basket)
Make a paper airplane. Stand about 10 steps away from the bucket. Throw the airplane at the bucket. If you hit the bucket, you get five points. If it goes in the bucket, you get 10 points. You will get 10 throws, so keep track of your results! - Water Bottle Flip (plastic water bottle)
See how many times you can get the bottle to land upright in one minute. Keep track of how many times you were successful. - Tube Stacking (several paper towel or toilet paper rolls)
See if you can stack tubes on top of each other. You may fold the tubes; however, you can not put one end into another. Each toilet paper tube stacked is worth five points and a paper towel tube is worth 10 points. - Keep It Up (balloon or beach ball, I may try a rubber glove in my demo)
See if you can keep it up for one minute. If you can, you have earned 10 points. **If you don’t have an item to “Keep Up” you can do the Balancing Act. While laying on your back with your feet in the air, balance a shoe on the sole of your foot. If you can do this for a minute, you will earn 10 points. - Coin Toss (any coin)
Flip a coin 10 times and keep track of your results. Example: 6 heads and 4 tails, there may be a surprise during the day based on the outcome. (Watch Mr. Andy’s video to find out!) - Scavenger Hunt (everyday items found around the house)
Instructions will be given during Wednesday’s Morning Gathering. - Sponge Relay (sponge, bucket of water and a measuring cup) – OUTSIDE ACTIVITY
Place the sponge in the bucket of water and put the measuring cup about 10 steps away. Fill the sponge with water and balance it on your head. Walk over to the measuring cup and squeeze the water into the cup. If the sponge falls off your head, do 10 jumping jacks before you continue. The object is to get 16 ounces of water into the cup in less than a minute, so repeat until the cup is full. If you succeed, you get 10 points. - Fill the Cup (plastic cup, bucket of water, and ½ cup measuring cup) – OUTSIDE ACTIVITY
While holding a cup on your head with one hand and the ½ cup measuring in the other, fill the cup on your head. See how many ½ cups of water it takes to fill the cup on your head. Keep track of how many and record the number.
