During Black History Month last year, Dr. Montgomery led an engaging conversation with Willow parents and staff, sharing stories of Dr. King, who was a personal friend of her family and used their home as his headquarters during his time in Alabama. This year, Dr. Montgomery returns to lead a conversation with Janice Kelsey, who wrote the memoir I Woke up with My Mind on Freedom. In 1963, 16-year-old Janice made a decision that had a profound effect on her future: she decided to become a foot soldier in the Birmingham, Alabama Children’s Crusade. Janice will share how she and other young people made a difference in the Civil Rights Movement.
